Three questions for ... Michael Saitow, SAITOW AG

25 Apr 2018

Michael Saitow, CEO of SAITOW AG

Mr. Saitow, do you think that retail companies still have a need for optimisation when it comes to digitization?

“It's all in the mix! A website alone is not enough, multi channelling is key. Apart from having your own website, you should also be active on social media. In addition, the internal processes have to be able to keep up. Nowadays everything has to happen on a smartphone or tablet, including customer contact.”

How do you see the development of digitisation and digital transformation in your industry?

“Companies are currently facing considerable challenges due to digitisation. Mainly they complain about high price competition by sellers on the Internet. There is room for improvement in the hiring of staff and the acquisition of new customers as well as in the purchasing processes, but most dealers still lack the necessary resources for this. The results of a survey have shown that less than 20 percent have a corresponding ideal business model.”

How do you think an ideal retailer should react to the change posed by digitisation?

“Ideally, a retailer should have its own Internet website and be active on social media on a regular basis as continuity is of utmost importance. And don’t forget the internal processes, which of course also have to keep up.”

SAITOW AG is an internationally operating IT company with 300 employees at several European locations. The core business includes the production, distribution and operation of e-commerce systems. The development of software, web applications and online platforms has been part of the company’s daily business for 15 years. SAITOW AG processes more than 100,000 transactions via its server every day and is trusted by around 75,000 customers. Tyre24.com, a division of SAITOW AG (Kaiserslautern), is the largest marketplace in the tyre industry with around 2,000 suppliers throughout Europe. It is also a supporting member of the BRV.

All-round success: THE TIRE COLOGNE 2018

8 Jun 2018

Entrance area with visitors of The Tire Cologne North entrance of Koelnmesse

It is not only the figures that give cause for joy.

"The performance was excellent," sums up Katharina C. Hamma, Managing Director of Koelnmesse. "The quality of the visitors, the event concept, the new orientation and the generous range of halls at the Cologne location were convincing all along the line. The central business platforms of THE TIRE COLOGNE were innovations and products from the segments tires and wheels, automotive services and workshop supplies, tire retreading as well as the recycling and disposal of used tires. In addition, the new topics of digitisation, recycling and fleet management as well as the international congresses "Global Retreading Conference" and "Future Tire Conference" provided new sustainable ideas, emphasizes Stefan Helm, Chairman of the Board of the German Tire Trade and Vulcanisation Trade Association (Bundesverband Reifenhandel- und Vulkaniseur-Handwerk e. V.), (BRV) in his conclusion.

And what do the visitors say? For them, too, the tire show was a complete success: in a survey, more than 80 percent of them were very satisfied. More than 90 percent would recommend THE TIRE COLOGNE to business friends. How did you experience THE TIRE COLOGNE 2018? Will you be back in 2020? And would you also recommend the visit to business friends? Mark the date for the next THE tirE COLOGNE in your calendar now!

THE TIRE COLOGNE: Three questions to Sven Müller, Schrader Performance Sensors

21 Aug 2017

Sven Müller, Sales Manager Aftermarket Europe, Schrader Performance Sensors

1. How is the current market situation in your industry?

All in all, our market situation is really positive. Similar to the tire and rim industry, as a manufacturer of tire pressure control systems we also benefit from a boom in the registration of new vehicles or circumstances as tightened regulations on the use of winter tires. Still, our market segment is very competitive – but anything else would be much less exciting.

2. How do you prepare your exhibition appearance?

We’re already busy preparing for TTC. As always, we’re planning a booth that is characterized by its very international approach – focused on the global aspects of our business and with a high number of staff from different countries. As the world market leader in our segment, we want to set benchmarks and keep our visitors and customers up to date on trends and innovations, so prepare for surprises.

3. What do you expect from THE TIRE COLOGNE?

First and foremost, we’re hoping for a very inspiring and much frequented trade show in the heart of Cologne. We look forward to good infrastructure and logistics as well as to a very nice atmosphere for both exhibitors and visitors in the city on the banks of the Rhine. In addition, we have very high expectations as to the organisation of the trade show and anticipate a record number of visitors, hopefully with both a strong regional and international share. The Tire Cologne has the best basis for becoming the industry’s leading trade show, thus offering many interesting chances and possibilities for exhibitors and visitors alike.

#B-SAFE4BUSINESS: How THE TIRE COLOGNE 2021 ensures your secure trade fair experience

9 Nov 2020

#B-SAFE4business

From May 18 to 21, 2021, Cologne will once again become the center of the international tire industry. THE TIRE COLOGNE starts into the future with an EXTRA EDITION in a new hybrid format. With the combination of a compact presence fair and the specifically developed digital platform TTC@HOME , it creates the ideal conditions for a dynamic re-start and enables exhibitors and trade visitors from all over the world to exchange ideas and do business safely - face-to-face in Cologne or digitally.

Secure exchange and successful networking on site in Cologne

Even in times of Corona, the presence event allows for relaxed encounters and successful networking. Koelnmesse provides for this with its own hygiene and safety concept. #B-SAFE4BUSINESS was developed in accordance with the requirements of the Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and in close cooperation with the Cologne authorities. The concept comprises four complementary packages of measures for a safe trade fair experience.

  • SHOW SAFE contains exhibitor guidelines for exhibition stands and business contacts: from limiting the size of stands to a maximum of 150 m2 to avoiding hand-shaking.
  • VISIT SAFE assures consistent implementation of the rules of hygiene on the exhibition grounds: with disinfection, mouth-and-nose protection, adequate ventilation and contactless paths.
  • MEET SAFE ensures risk-free encounters: through a limited number of participants, enlarged areas, safety distances and optimized entrance and exit management.
  • STAY SAFE includes all measures for a safe day at the fair: online ticket sales, participant registration, digital signage systems as well as rules for events and catering.

"We know that personal contact is the heart of every trade fair. That's why we do everything we can to ensure the safety of our exhibitors, visitors and partners in the best possible way. Whether live on site or digitally - we are already looking forward to our industry meeting," emphasizes Ingo Riedeberger, Director of THE TIRE COLOGNE.

Plan your visit now or secure your stand space - without risk, with a free cancellation period until January 31, 2021. Register online now!

3 questions for … Volker Nitz, Administrator of The Danish Tyretrade Environmental Foundation

8 Jan 2020

3 questions for … Volker Nitz, Administrator of The Danish Tyretrade Environmental Foundation

What do you think the tire trade is currently doing right for a better future?

Being an “environmental freak” has turned into a positive label – almost a seal of quality – with consumers, organisations, politicians and the media in particular. This is especially true for the Nordic countries where green sustainability and respect for the environment are ingrained in almost every level of daily life.

Taking responsibility for our ecosystem and setting the foundation for green mobility has also become a focal point for the tyre industry. Premium tyre manufacturers are supporting it through improving their development and production. The search for new and sustainable materials while ensuring long duration and best performance are key issues for the industry. This not only reduces the environmental footprint but also gives the end-users the best value for money. In the transport sector, the reduction of CO2 emissions is an important factor, and the tyre industry is supporting this effort, too. Efficient tyre management, low rolling resistance and high retreadability of tyres are contributing in a positive and significant way – if customers buy the right quality products, that is.

Which sectors or companies should a specialist tyre retailer take as an example when it comes to setting up for the future?

In general, the tyre industry is very driven and foresighted. It develops its products according to the demands of the automotive industry and its customers and is supporting the retailers in many ways and various areas.

However, retailers and customers are very different from country to country, and for this reason, is it impossible for me to give an overall recommendation on the matter. Nevertheless, it is rather clear to me that customer relations, management, and service will remain a vital success factor for the industry. Convenience for both end-consumers and professional clients is getting more and more important as leisure time and efficiency are highly valued. From my point of view, it’s all about the crucial basics: a close relationship with the customer, based on excellent service and good products, creates satisfaction and loyalty – and ambassadors for your brand.

What do you think is the most important thing that needs to happen in the tire industry?

I believe that the commitment to researching and developing sustainable production methods and materials, culminating in superior quality tyres, is the overall requirement. In addition, within and beyond existing EU regulations, tyre manufacturers should be committed to securing that tyres are providing the least possible negative impact on the environment. After all, they provide one of the most vital products for our mobility.

TTC@home 2021 brings THE TIRE COLOGNE to the screen

TTC@home 2021 brings THE TIRE COLOGNE to the screen

Next year, THE TIRE COLOGNE will be held as a hybrid event for the first time. The EXTRA EDITION 2021 will begin on May 18 and will run for three days in two parallel, interconnected formats that offer exhibitors and visitors a whole new world of possibilities.

In addition to the familiar - albeit much more compact - presence trade fair, the innovative TTC@home will celebrate its premiere. As a digital trade fair, it brings THE TIRE COLOGNE to screens all over the world and provides the industry with the best possible virtual networking opportunities despite the Corona pandemic. TTC@home offers exhibitors the possibility to present their solutions to a broad audience, thereby tapping into new target groups. As a visitor, you can either watch the featured content such as panels live or view it on-demand whenever you have the time.

Information and interaction galore

From fireside chats and presentations to the Virtual Café, there is something for everyone. Various areas offer numerous opportunities for exhibitors and visitors to gain information and socialize. The central Show Area is divided into two areas: SHOWROOM and SHOWFLOOR.

  • SHOWROOM: This is where you will find the exhibitors' interactive profiles and a link to the individual content they provide - from images and written information to video content and participation in digital events. You can also use SHOWROOM to network directly. All exhibitors participating in the presence fair will receive a basic digital package free of charge.
  • SHOWFLOOR: SHOWFLOOR is a kind of digital trade fair catalog: It contains a complete overview of all exhibitors with various search functions (alphabetical listing, segments and/or product groups, countries, function of contact persons).

TTC@home offers the best opportunities for effortless networking, as content on products and companies can be accessed at any time - even after the trade fair is over. Special networking functions enable chats with up to 10 people and the possibility to take part in digital meetings or virtual masterclasses, facilitating the deepening of old or new contacts. This is also supported by the innovative Discovery Graph tool, which visualizes all participants and their connections, allowing you to contact specific people. At the same time, these possibilities create a sustainable community platform that focuses on the needs of the tire industry and will continue to exist beyond THE TIRE COLOGNE 2021.

The detailed content for TTC@home is currently being developed. You can always find the latest news and further information on our homepage.

What moves the tyre industry? The latest study by THE TIRE COLOGNE provides answers.

7 Oct 2019

Research Special for the THE TIRE COLOGNE

What moves the tyre industry? The latest study by THE TIRE COLOGNE provides answers.

As the leading platform for the tyre and wheel business, THE TIRE COLOGNE is an important driving force for the entire industry. The fair now underlines this claim with a current study on the most important challenges for tyre dealers in five European core markets.

"We see it as our task to create relevant content that offers our exhibitors and visitors genuine added value," emphasises Ingo Riedeberger, Director of the THE TIRE COLOGNE at Koelnmesse. "This is why we are conducting a well-founded study to identify the topics that move our industry the most. With the knowledge gained from this, we can provide valuable impulses. At the same time, we use the insights to gear our congress and event programme even more strongly to the needs of our customers".

THE TIRE COLOGNE conducted the study together with IFH Cologne. The tyre trade in Germany, Great Britain, Italy, France and Poland was asked about the relevance of topics such as digital marketing, data management in the workshop, personnel recruitment and employee training. It was found, for example, that for 83 percent of those surveyed in Germany digitisation is of great relevance for the development of their business. 82 percent report that they have problems finding qualified personnel - 61 percent were therefore unable to fill a position.

The complete results of the study will be presented at the international trade press conference of THE TIRE COLOGNE on October 10, 2019 and subsequently published on the website. Selected topics will be discussed in detail at the trade fair from 9 to 12 June 2020 in expert forums, industry talks and networking events. Stay tuned!

From 10 October you can find out more about the most important topics and developments for the tyre industry!

How can I optimise my vehicle fleet in view of rising cost pressure and increasing digitalisation? Where can innovative technology and new services reduce costs? How can I make tire management and breakdown service more efficient? Answers to these and many other questions were provided by the stimulating keynote speeches and workshops at the TIRE Fleet Day, which Koelnmesse organised together with ETM-Verlag and the Bundesverband Reifenhandel und Vulkaniseur-Handwerk (BRV).

More than 90 trade visitors benefited from significant new insights and impulses for their business. The focus was on two topics in particular: increasing digitalisation and the resulting interface problems between the systems, as well as strategies to counter the shortage of skilled workers. They provided plenty of material for discussion and encouraged constructive cooperation. In a joint "trilogue", the participants worked out solutions to the challenges the industry is facing.

The result: a successful and informative event with valuable new findings for the entire tyre industry - and last but not least an excellent platform for exchange and business networking with important players.

This way, the outcomes and discussions of the TIRE Fleet Day provide the perfect basis for further deepening the subject of fleet management. As in 2018, the TIRE Fleet Lounge at THE TIRE COLOGNE 2020 will once again be a point of contact for the industry, building on the theme of the TIRE Fleet Day and providing interested parties with information on current challenges and opportunities.

Further information on this year's TIRE Fleet Day is available at Eurotransport .

Hands on: Tire service for commercial vehicles

18 May 2018

Reifenmontage Skizze

At THE TIRE COLOGNE you will experience what moves the industry: from megatrend digitisation to the latest technologies for tyre recycling.

Our Digital Reality, Recycling Forum and Fleet Lounge theme areas make the leading trade fair for the tire industry a complete success. Practice is not neglected either: You can find out everything about the handling of commercial vehicle tyres in the special tyre service section. Visitors of THE TIRE COLOGNE will be able to see demonstrations on three different commercial vehicle tyre fitting machines in Hall 8 - a perfect opportunity to learn everything important first-hand directly from the professionals!

The German Tire Trade and Vulcanizing Trade Association (BRV) and the German Rubber Industry Association e.V. (wdk) are joining forces for this action - more competence is not possible! The mounters have a lot on their plate at THE TIRE COLOGNE: and demonstrate six different and particularly demanding dimensions of assembly. Of course with the different RDK systems. During assembly, all visitors have the opportunity to look over the fitters' shoulders. So that all interested parties can follow every assembly step and the work of the fitters on site, the assemblies are broadcast live on screen and moderated at the stand.

In addition to this, the joint trade fair appearance also allows for sufficient space and time to enter into discussion, talk shop and exchange expert tips. In order to also be able to convey the importance of the correct mounting utility vehicle tires to visitors in an entirely practical manner, exhibits with mounting errors can be viewed at the stand. The BRV/wdk joint stand in Hall 8 will be realised with the generous support of the following partners:

#TTConTour: International Networking at Autopromotec 2019 in Bologna

20 May 2019

TTConTour at autopromotec

What does THE TIRE COLOGNE actually do outside of trade fair hours? Using the time to get to know new partners, to meet existing partners and to strengthen and expand the international network. From now on we will report regularly on our activities under the title "#TTConTour". The starting point is Autopromotec 2019 in Bologna: from 22 to 26 May 2019 we will participate when the world of the automotive aftermarket comes together in the home of major Italian motorsport brands.

Autopromotec 2019 will focus on new mobility needs such as self-propelled and networked vehicles or shared mobility and their effects on the aftermarket. This year’s focus: Workshop tools, tires and tire accessories, spare parts and automotive service. Similar to Autopromotec 2017, THE TIRE COLOGNE will once again be involved in its international networking and participate with its own stand - to provide trade visitors and exhibitors with a point of contact for information and service. Autopromotec takes place in Bologna every two years. It is the international platform for industry, manufacturers, customers and decision-makers in Italy. More than 100,000 visitors and 1,599 exhibitors from 53 different countries attended the last Autopromotec. The exhibition area of 158,000 square metres (30,000 of them outdoors) offers a top-class setting to make new contacts and exchange information internationally – which is why THE TIRE COLOGNE will participate.

The THE TIRE COLOGNE team will have its own stand in Hall 20 (Stand A 51) and is looking forward to your visit!

THE TIRE COLOGNE: Three questions to Yorick M. Lowin

4 Apr 2017

Yorick M. Lowin, managing director of the Federal Association of Tire Dealers and Vulkaniseur-Handwerk e. V. (BRV) in Bonn, Germany

Please introduce yourself shortly.

My name is Yorick M. Lowin, I am forty years old, married, and father of two children. Since January 1, 2017, I am the managing director of the Federal Association of Tire Dealers and Vulkaniseur-Handwerk e. V. (BRV) in Bonn, Germany. In the summer of 2017, when our CEO Peter Hülzer retires after three decades, Hans-Jürgen Drechsler and I will take over the management of our association. Originally, I am a commercial lawyer and have already worked in leading positions for trade associations in other sectors before starting at BRV.

What are your expectations for THE TIRE COLOGNE?

For me, the premiere of the TTC will also be a premiere of a tire industry fair. I expect and believe that the TTC will be the new leading trade fair for the tire industry. The present registration status confirms this expectation. The Koelnmesse has played a key role in this: It has proven in the past that they are capable of continuously developing fairs through its international and professional presence on one of the world's biggest exhibition areas, opening up new markets as well as new target groups.

What future challenges does the BRV currently face?

The future challenges of the BRV arise from the challenges of the industry: The average driving performance of the Germans decreases as a result of a change in mobility, the quality of the product 'tire' is steadily improving, thus the operating life increases. The market is saturated. There is a strong displacement competition. Driven by this insight, companies are trying to specialize or expand their classic service portfolio. Today, the one-stop-service concept is often taken up: In addition to the core business of 'tires', the 'car service' is also a second stand. In turn, car repair shops are increasingly focusing on the 'tire' business segment besides their core business. In my opinion, it’s a very important task of the BRV to accompany and support our current and future members in this change of their service offers while always keeping an eye on our core competency 'tires'.

In your eyes, what are the benefits of a trade fair which is clearly focussing on the tire industry?

Tires are high tech products that are constantly undergoing further development. Also, their handling in terms of montage, maintenance and upkeep is getting more and more demanding. Since tires are safety-relevant components, they have to be absolutely reliable as they bring all elaborated safety features of a car “onto the road”. In that regard, to me, it’s obvious that the tire industry needs THE TIRE COLOGNE as an international platform. For exhibitors and visitors, it will be the new meeting point for driving future directions as well as for discussing the industry’s challenges, trends and best practices.

THE TIRE COLOGNE 2021: Even more opportunities for your business

THE TIRE COLOGNE 2021: Even more opportunities for your business

With the Extra Edition 2021, THE TIRE COLOGNE continues to drive the digitisation of the tire industry forward. As a combination of a presence trade fair and the digital TTC@home, it provides a reliable international platform for exchange, networking and successful business even in times of Corona. The hybrid concept offers exhibitors distinct advantages: a much wider reach and the chance to reach new target groups - even beyond the event itself.

Even in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tire industry does not have to forgo personal contacts. THE TIRE COLOGNE will be hosted in 2021 as an Extra Edition, featuring an innovative mix of a compact presence trade fair from May 18 to 21 in Cologne and a digital platform. The #B-SAFE4BUSINESS hygiene and safety concept, which Koelnmesse developed in accordance with the Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and in close cooperation with the local authorities, will ensure a safe trade fair experience.

This year's THE TIRE COLOGNE 2021 will be more compact, focused and content-oriented, with the security concept providing for a limitation of the exhibition and stand areas. At the same time, the trade fair offers safe opportunities for personal exchange in the Lead Café and the Meeting Area. If you are interested in joining as an exhibitor, you will benefit from favorable, transparent conditions and attractive package solutions such as an included digital package for every exhibitor.

TTC@home: the platform for digital networking

Discover even more possibilities for presenting your solutions with the digital TTC@home, which will be, accompanying the presence trade fair. In the virtual SHOWROOM you can create an interactive profile and present your products with photos, text and attention-grabbing video trailers to a wide audience - not only to trade fair visitors, but also to interested parties from all over the world, 24/7! Your benefit: This content remains permanently available even after the trade fair. This makes TTC@home a sustainable community platform that supports your brand positioning in the long term.

You will see: networking is easier than ever with TTC@home . You can further elaborate on your products and establish new contacts at the Product Stage, in chats, digital panels, conferences and "fireside chats". We support you in this with helpful tools: for example with our Discovery Graph, a tool that visualises all participants and their contacts. For a targeted visitor approach, you can search for contact information by various filters and individual brand cards in the SHOWFLOOR. Our NEWSROOM serves as a virtual press center. In addition, we offer you a wide range of interactive advertising formats: from single banners to comprehensive advertising packages.

THE TIRE COLOGNE: Three questions to Andreas Niegsch, Bridgestone Deutschland GmbH

18 Jul 2017

Andreas Niegsch, Bridgestone Deutschland GmbH

1. How does your company adapt itself to the industry’s current trends?

Bridgestone stands for safety, innovation and service. Two of our milestones, for example, are the Run-Flat technology and the DriveGuard – a tire that allows the driver to maintain control even after a puncture and safely continue driving for 50 miles at up to 50 mph. In addition to safety, sustainability plays an important role for us. In 2015 we were the first manufacturer to introduce a tire for a passenger car consisting of natural rubber from the guayule plant. Moreover, we developed the Ologic technology which helps reduce the fuel consumption and its related CO2 emissions. One of our goals is to be able produce all our tires, without exception, from sustainable materials by 2050. As a result, we have been listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

2. What does a successful trade fair look like in your eyes?

As the global leader of tire industry, we want to have a strong visibility at all relevant trade shows, increase awareness of our brand and stay in our customer’s minds in a positive and sustainable way. Our goal is for customers to actively engage with our brand. As an exhibitor, it is very important for us to present our new products and service concepts. Trade shows such as “The Tire Cologne” are an ideal platform for introducing our latest tire innovations to the tire specialist trade , to car service providers and workshop suppliers. It gives us the chance to elaborate on product details and answer any questions business partners or end users might have. This allows us to gain lots of insights for our divisions. In the end, a trade fair is always a valuable stress test for your sales pitch as you receive immediate and unfiltered feedback, making trade shows equally exciting and interesting for exhibitors and visitors.

3. What do you think of the fact that the target groups have been extended to new segments such as fleet management?

Fleet management plays a crucial role for us. With new tire technologies such as DriveGuard, our mobility guarantee and tires with low rolling resistance, we especially cater to the demanding requirements of fleets. In the truck sector, our cutting-edge tire pressure monitoring system supports fleet managers in the electronic control of tire pressure in real time. This extends the service life of tires, increases safety and reduces costs. The web-based fleet management software compares data and sends maintenance recommendations to the fleet manager and service provider if the air pressure of a tire falls below the tolerance. Together with further important tire data which is saved in the TOOLBOX, we can help fleets to get an exact overview of their costs and introduce improvement processes which then can be constantly tracked and checked by Bridgestone Total Tyre Care. With the Bridgestone tire pressure monitoring system – which is included in the fleet service package – customers can be sure that all vehicles in their fleet always have optimal tire pressure. We will showcase this system to our visitors at “The Tire Cologne”. And we will also highlight how the cooperation between us and our partners helps fleet managers maximize the efficiency of their fleet and minimize tire-related costs.

Award for the THE TIRE COLOGNE

Exhibitors, visitors and also the international trade press were enthusiastic about the debut of THE TIRE COLOGNE. The leading Portuguese trade magazine „automotive magazine“ has now awarded THE TIRE COLOGNE the title of best international trade fair.

Right from the start, THE TIRE COLOGNE has established itself in the club of leading international trade fairs for tires, accessories, fleet management, vehicle equipment and workshop equipment. And topping off this exciting 2018 trade fair year is the Portuguese award in the „Best International Exhibition“ category.

In order to determine the industry leader, the editorial staff of „automotive magazine“ asked industry experts about the best international trade fair. THE TIRE COLOGNE received the highest ratings and was able to prevail against renowned events such as the automechanika in Frankfurt, the Reifenmesse Frankfurt, the IAA Nutzfahrzeuge in Hanover, the Geneva Motor Show, the Paris Motor Show and the Professional Motorsport World Expo.

In his laudatory speech, Eduardo Gaspar, Editor-in-Chief of the leading Portuguese trade magazine, emphasised: „THE TIRE COLOGNE offered exhibitors and visitors excellent conditions. Already in its first year, it has not only developed into the most important trade fair for the tire business. What’s more, it has combined all important segments in an ideal way and thus set standards for other automotive trade fairs”.

„We are very pleased about this award,“ says Ingo Riedeberger, Director of THE TIRE COLOGNE, who accepted it during a festive reception on 22 November 2018. „It confirms our strategic orientation and spurs us on to further expand the next trade fair in 2020“.

"We are pleased that Hankook has also decided in favour of participation. A wonderful signal! This means that the top ten tire manufacturers are represented in their entirety at THE TIRE COLOGNE. Cooper Tires, as the current number 11 on the world ranking list, underlines the exceptional interim balance", says Christoph Werner, Vice President of Koelnmesse. "THE TIRE COLOGNE will be the leading international industry event right from the start." Of the current "tire world ranking list", with Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear, Continental, Pirelli, Sumitomo/Falken, Hankook, Yokohama, Maxxis and Giti, not only the ten providers with the biggest sales, but also those international market participants following on the list (Cooper Tires, Zhongce Rubber, Toyo Tires, Kumho, Triangle, MRF, apollo, Nokian and Nexen Tire) will attend the event in Cologne from 29 May to 1 June 2018.

Successful developments in all segments

Next to Hunter, the global market leader in the field of axle alignment, also the internationally renowned tool manufacturer Snap On has registered for the premiere in May 2018. Both companies will then have their booth in hall 8 of Koelnmesse, where automotive services and workshop needs will be presented on 11,000 square metres.

BRV General Assembly 2019: People and service are the keys to success

12 Sep 2019

General Meeting of the Federal Association of the Tire and Vulcanisation Trade.

How can companies in the tyre business continue to ensure successful business in the future? The answer is: with market- and customer-oriented products and services. In this, customers and employees are actually the key factors for the positive development not only of individual stakeholders, but of the entire industry. The general meeting of the Federal Association of the Tyre and Vulcanisation Trade (BRV), which acts as the organiser and conceptual sponsor of THE TIRE COLOGNE, provided valuable impulses on this subject.

"Creating quality services together with people" - that was the motto of the specialist programme at the BRV general meeting on 24 May in Hamburg. After all, qualified and motivated employees are indispensable for outstanding market- and customer-oriented services.
How can customer service be optimised? “Have the right attitude”, advises Sabine Hübner, university lecturer for Service Management. Service is not only a technical, but also an emotional topic - and attitude shows itself precisely in what we do when nobody is looking. According to her, service quality means empathy, anticipating needs and going the extra mile for the customer.

This requires competent and highly motivated employees. But with the current shortage of skilled workers, they are hard to find and not always easy to keep. During the panel discussion, the participants highlighted all facets of the topic and presented possible solutions:

  • Recruiting good trainees by help of creative concepts and attracting qualified staff through in-house training and targeted further training - this is what Gerd Wächter, Managing Director of the tyre trade cooperation TOP SERVICE TEAM KG, and Günther Ihle, Managing Director of the truck tyre retreading company RIGDON GmbH, rely on.
  • Burkhard Rehn, consultant at the trade association "Raw materials and chemical industry" (BG RCI) recommends companies to introduce an occupational health and safety management system and to communicate it clearly. "In this way, companies show that they have optimised their work processes and offer their employees optimum conditions.
  • Attorney Jan-Kai Jensen from the law firm JEP Rechtsanwälte which represents BRV explained legal aspects of apprenticeships and further training. His conclusion: "It is important to have employees on board when making decisions. This, too, is a form of appreciation and contributes to employee loyalty."

My name is Frank Jung, 58 years of age. I have been working at Continental in different positions for the last 30 years. For 10 years, I have been the managing director of Vergölst, a trading subsidiary of Continental. Since 2010, I am the Head of Marketing and Sales for car tyres in the replacement market Germany.

We watch the market carefully and put a lot of effort into always finding the best solutions for the challenges that our customers are facing. This includes developing technologically leading products, providing modern POS materials as well as conducting targeted sales activities like the ContiTreuePrämie or the Uniroyal satisfaction guarantee. Another focus lies on advising our business partners regarding the challenges that are resulting from the internet, networking and digitisation.
